SamplerBox: The Handy Sampler Synth

A USB MIDI host and sampler sound module for MIDI keyboards on the go.
I didn’t invent this, SamplerBox has been around for a while, but I wanted to share with you my favorite version, based on the new Raspberry Pi Zero 2, to perpetuate my tiny synth addiction. I followed the instructions provided by Chromakinetics to make SamplerBox take advantage of the tiny screen on the Pimoroni Pirate Audio hat (aux and speaker versions). They may not have used a Pi Zero, but I found the same instructions do work on the new ‘Pi Zero 2‘ (and 2 W) as well.
I’m also a big fan of adding the Pisugar battery hat.
And this tiny speaker, or this one that’s slightly bigger but more durable.
That thing stuck in the Micro USB jack, it’s the smallest possible OTG adaptor, so you can connect a USB-A plug to the Micro jack in host mode, without a dongle. Don’t plug it in upside-down though, that just shorts out all the power.

Here’s an old version of the SamplerBox I made back in the day, like 10 years ago:
